Meringue Squiggles

Great party food or as an alternative to the traditional meringue nests, this Meringue Squiggles recipe for kids is an easy recipe to make with the kids.  Remember to always follow the Kitchen Monsters Code when you’re in the kitchen!

Ingredients: 2 x egg whites, 75g x caster sugar, 3 x tbsp icing sugar, sugar sprinkles
Special Equipment: Mixing bowl, kitchen scales, baking tray, electric beaters (or a whisk if you’re feeling energetic!), piping bag

Meringue SquigglesPre-heat an oven to about 150C
Separate the egg whites into the mixing bowl and beat until the mixture forms stiff peaks (when it’s ready you should be able to hold the bowl over your head without it falling out!)
Pipe onto the baking tray into small 4 inch long squiggles
Bake for about an hour until they feel crisp to the touch
Add a little water to the icing sugar and form a paste
Spread a little on the top of each squiggle and shake over some of your sugar sprinkles
Serve and enjoy – the longer you leave them the chewier they get!

Kitchen Monster Tip:  If you don’t have a piping bag then you could try snipping the corner off a plastic freezer bag and using that instead – it might not be as neat but it will still taste as good!
